Here's my Frequent Traveller iPod tip of the day.
The BBC's new digital radio station BBC 7 broadcasts a wide range of classic comedy and drama from the Beeb archives.
But best of all it keeps a week of programmes available on demand in perfectly listenable quality in the Listen Again section.
Just download the free audio editing package Audacity, select "What U Hear" mode, start recording and begin streaming.
When you're done you can crunch your programme into an MP3 and pop it onto your iPod -- or burn it onto a CD for that matter.
It's a fantastic service -- one of the hidden gems of the BBC.
STuart,where can i find that mode, record what you listen via the internet. Does it depend which stream you listen too?
ReplyDeleteI couldn't find the Audacity 'What U hear' mode either, on a Mac at least. It works with Wiretap, as mentiioned above, but Audo Recorder records directly to MP3 or AIFF and saves all the hassle with compressing etc. Find it here:

It's brave of you to encourage people to encroach upon BBC copyright on your blog. That said, there are better ways to do what you're suggesting - for one, you could get a digital radio or digital TV card for your PC, record the digital MP2 feeds off air, convert them to MP3/AAC (iTunes can do this for you) and stick them on your iPod. It'd give you much better sound quality and is much less fiddly.
