It has taken 12 hours to travel the 100 miles to Kathmandu. Every member of Nepal's Transport Ministry should be publicly shot.

now, now. You should try travelling on that road during and after monsoon season. Then, whilst you're on the road, chances are some of it will be washed away in a landslide, leaving a tiny fraction of path left for both sides of traffic to alternately travel on. And that inevitably leads to hours and hours of waiting to travel the distance from say London to Oxford. On one occasion, I waited 3 hours just to get from the base of the hills surrounding Kathmandu, up the hill, through the checkpoint and into Kathmandu itself, a distance of a few miles.

Every year, heavy rains destroy the few roads that exist in Nepal, and given the lack of resources, it's not that easy for Nepal to find the funds to repair them. At least you were probably in a tourist bus, which means a slightly more comfortable ride. On the same trip that took hours to get into Kathmandu, I took a local bus, had no seat and spent 9 hours balancing on the steps leading out of the bus, with nothing between me and the raging river below as the rest of the road had been washed away - believe me, after experiencing that, a 12 hour journey on a tourist bus is absolute luxury :-)

at least you won't find long journeys quite so bad in the UK ever again.

But come on seriously what where you expecting?
Real info on Nepal is only a google search away.
