The Guardian profiles Iraqi Kurdish film director Bahman Gobadi, whose new movie Turtles Can Fly is released in the UK tomorrow.

Having already seen this film at the Kurdish Film Festival in London in late 2004, I can thoroughly recommend the film. I don't want to give away details of what happens, but there are some powerful moments in the film and watching it brings home just how much landmines are part of daily life in Iraqi Kurdistan.
