A diplomatic row is brewing over the allegations in this article.
The claims are not new but they've been strongly denied by Mahmoud Ahmedinejad's office -- and with just eyewitness reports and a few grainy photographs to go on there's a need for some hard documentary evidence to back up the allegations.
UPDATE: The article has subseuently been revised. See this posting.

But haven't some of the former US embassy hostages also come forward saying that they recognise Mahmoud Ahmadinejad?
It wouldn't suprise me if he had been involved.
For there was a rather interesting article in the The Atlantic by Mark Bowden, a couple of issues ago which looked at what had happened to the gerogan-girha it seems that many did end up in important offical positions because of embassy hostage taking. But the article also shows that amongst the hostage takers themselves there was confusion about how events unfolded and who exactly was involved.
