Diane Sawyer of ABC News has ventured inside North Korea -- She travelled 7000 miles (gasp!) and flew...wait for it...overnight (no!) -- so what insights can she bring us from the heart of the Hermit Kingdom?

North Koreans don't have Blackberrys. Some of them get married. Some even respond when you wave at them.

It's straight-off-the-plane journalism at its most cringe-inducing.

You need to realise, Stuart, that for an American audience the absence of Blackberries is proof of a repressive and backward society. I saw the report on BBC World and wondered why it had been granted airtime rather than a timely report on the guano harvest in Peru, for example.

Well, it is Morning TV in the US, expecting depth is like expecting a first grader to do calculus. While I also deplored the banality, there were some photos that I found quite interesting.

I'm curious, though -- how'd she get in? What's the inside scoop in the news industry?

Pat -- I've been told that ABC had negotiators with links to Pyongyang on the payroll for a year working on getting permission to report from N Korea...so the trip was planned long before Nork's nuclear test.
